On Saturday 14th November, seven Year 5 and 6 girls travelled to Sutton Lawn Playing Fields to participate in the County Round of the Under 11s 7-a-side English Schools FA Danone Nations Cup. Ambleside had previously won the City Schools competition at Dunkirk Powerleague Pitches and therefore were at the competition representing Nottingham City. Eight teams participated with Ambleside Primary School in Group B alongside Redlands, Parkdale and Hillside.
The first game for Ambleside was against Bassetlaw’s representative; Redlands. In a tight game neither team could find the back of the net and the game finished 0-0 despite a number of chances for both sides.
Ambleside then took on Parkdale, from Gedling, and were unfortunate to lose 2-0 after some good play and goal scoring opportunities. The final game of the group stage saw Ambleside play against the Kirkby and Ashfield District team from Hillside. Again, another close game and after a goal-line scramble Hillside poked the ball home and sneaked a 1-0 victory late in the game.
Unfortunately, Ambleside did not progress past the group stages and the competition was won by Parkdale. However, the school are incredibly proud of the girls’ achievements over the last few months after coming together at the start of the school year. A fantastic experience that was enjoyed by all. Well done to the girls that participated in the competition – Ellie, Sway, Tyra, Simone, Cloemarie Wright, Caitlin and Kia.
Attention now focusses on the league fixtures where Ambleside have taken two wins from two and sit on 8 points (2 bonus points for playing fixtures early) with Meghan and Aliya joining the team in their first ever games!
The first of the victories came against Dovecote in a 2-0 win with Cloemarie scoring twice. Ambleside then competed against Carrington, winning 4-1 with goals from Cloemarie (2), Sway and Simone. Ambleside travel to Fernwood on Thursday 19th November and then take on Whitemoor on Thursday 26th November.
