Congratulations to the Boccia players who competed in the first Boccia qualifying tournament at the Ellis Guilford School on Tuesday 19th January 2016. This event has become so popular it is now necessary to run qualifying heats. All the players represented the school with excellent sporting attitude and superb ‘bowling’ skills. After playing three group matches; the A team finished 2nd in their group and the B team finished 3rd in their group. Both teams played two more matches in the ranking matches. The A team were playing for one of the remaining qualifying places in the Finals (to be held on 1st March 2016). In one match, their bowling was so accurate that 3 successive players hit the white jack bowl, however they knocked it closer to the opposing teams red bowls and that was the difference in winning the match. Overall, our teams finished 6th and 9th out of 12 teams. We could not win any medals this year; but everyone played their very best and were a credit to themselves and the school. Special thanks to Mrs Pitt, Miss Warriner and Mr Marks, who accompanied the teams to the event and encouraged everyone throughout the morning.
